Frequently Asked Questions About Your First Week of Law School

Do I have to attend orientation?

Yes, attendance is required at all events during the orientation week. A major portion of the week is the beginning to your academic career in the Lawering Skills I course. In fact, your first assignment is to read pages 1-78 of the Bodenheimer text for class on August 19 (see the First Assignment section for details.)

When do regular classes begin?

They begin on August 25, 2008. Included in this mailing is a formal schedule of your courses. You will be assigned to your legal writing section when you arrive.

What should I wear on the first day of orientation and for the Welcome Banquet on Wednesday?

Although casual business attire is appropriate for the first day, you will have your picture taken as you check in between 8:00 and 8:30 p.m. The picture is used in an in-house picture book for faculty and staff, so you may want to avoid wearing hats the first day. Casual attire is appropriate for the welcome banquet on
August 20th.

Where do I go to check-in on August 19?

Come to the first floor of the Law School outside of the Dean’s Office to check in. At that time, you will receive a binder of information pertinent to the remainder of the week and have your photo taken.

Who are the orientation team leaders?

The four team leaders are 3L and 2L students who will help you make the transition to law school. There are 14 group leaders who will be leading your small group and serve as a resource for questions you have during the week.

When do I get my financial aid and where do I pick it up?

Financial Aid for Fall Semester will be either directly deposited into your personal bank account or credited
to your Higher One Account through your UND Pride Card starting on September 8, 2008. In both cases,
the student’s bill is paid and the remaining funds will be deposited into the designated account. Students must make this choice as they activate their Pride Card. For information regarding features associated with the these options, go to www.UNDPRIDECARD.com. Spring Semester Financial Aid will be available in
mid-January, 2009.

When and how do I get my law school e-mail address?

You will receive a law school e-mail account when you arrive on campus. Computer services will have you fill out a form to activate your account. It is critical that you use this account or have it forwarded to another e-mail address because all official law school notifications and updates will be sent to your law school address.

Where can I eat on campus?

The Memorial Union has a food court with a variety of food options and the Terrace Dining Center. As a student, you can request a meal plan option which will allow you to eat a specific number of meals there each week. You can also pay cash per meal in the Dining Center.
