UND Law Clinic students recently welcomed Shannon P. Uglem, a solo practitioner in Northwood, North Dakota, as a guest lecturer. 

Mr. Uglem, who graduated from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 2004, served as a certified student attorney in the Law Clinic during the fall 2003 and spring 2004 semesters. 

During his visit, Mr. Uglem shared with Clinic students his perspectives on the challenges facing new attorneys and solo practitioners. 

He also provided students with insight into the experience he has gained working as the only lawyer in Northwood and in a wide variety of areas, including civil litigation, probate, estate planning and tax. 

Clinic students had a chance to ask questions of Mr. Uglem on topics ranging from client selection to work-life balance. 

Mr. Uglem noted that his participation in the Law Clinic as a student attorney was invaluable in helping to prepare him for practice after his graduation from law school.
